Chestnut Hill Chestnut Hill shares the same name with its neighboring area in Brookline. The village is a mix of residential and commercial and also includes Boston College. Some areas of Chestnut Hill have the oldest, most impressive houses in Newton. Large Victorians, Georgian Colonials, Colonial Revivals and Mansions can be seen in this village. The two oldest homes in Newton are on Old Orchard Road. A large section of Chestnut Hill has been declared an Historic District. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Newton Centre Newton Centre is the largest and most centrally located village. Formed at the intersection of Beacon, Langley and Centre Streets; the core of Newton Centre hosts a variety of ethnic restaurants, shopping, coffee shops, and an MBTA station. Beyond its commercial district, Newton Centre includes Crystal Lake, a deep glacial pond in a sylvan setting open for swimming in the summer. Across from the City Hall is the award-winning Newton Free Library which offers lectures, films, exhibitions and an excellent art gallery. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Newton Corner Newton Corner - bounded by the Charles River, Watertown and Brighton; is one of the city's oldest sections. Today it is the first entrance to Boston on the Mass. Turnpike. For this reason The Mass. Transit Authority has many bus routes operating from this village. The Jackson Homestead, built in 1809 is now the city's museum. Newton Highlands Accessible by MBTA, Newton Highlands is a wealth of charming Victorian houses, coffee shops, hair and nail salons, restaurants, boutiques, and Baker's Best delectables. The areas main commercial district is along Lincoln Street. A small section of Newton Highlands crosses over route nine and includes Dedham Street to Stoney Brae Rd., Walnut St until Salon St., and Woodcliff Rd. Newton Upper Falls- south of "Route 9" and bordering Wellesley- is the smallest village. Much of Upper Falls is now a local historic district containing more than 150 structures, many of which look much like they did in the 19th century. Echo Bridge, built is 1876, is a 500 long granite bridge with the highest stone arches in the world. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Newtonville Newtonville is divided by the Mass. Turnpike and has a station for the commuter train to Boston. It is home to the magnificent new Newton North High School. The commercial section is located on Washington and Walnut Streets with a wide range of shops including a large Shaw's Supermarket. The village contains a fine collection of well-preserved Victorian architecture, ranging from austere Greek Revival of the 1840s through the ornamented Colonial Revival of the 1890s. Nonantum At the heart of Nonantum laid Silver Lake. The pond owed its existence to the removal of several layers of peat by Irish immigrants who used it for fuel. The lake was filled in and built over from the 1930s into the 1950s. Longtime residents still refer to Nonantum as "The Lake", referring to the former Silver lake. Nonantum is on the northern edge of the City bordered by Waltham and Watertown. It has small streets housing one and two-family home. Oak Hill Park At the end of World War II, when there was a housing shortage for the veterans, the City of Newton built 412 houses, a shopping center and a school for its new veterans. The new neighborhood was called "Oak Hill Park". Each home included three bedrooms, one bath and no basement. It become incorporated as a village into the City of Newton in 1950. Today many of the houses have second floors or have been demolished to be replaced by larger homes. The elementary school closed in 1977 due to declining enrollment and the business district has become apartments for the elderly. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Thompsonville
This village is little known outside the residents. Its boundaries seem to overlap those of Chestnut Hill and Newton Centre. There is no zip code for Thompsonville so the residents use the Newton Centre or Chestnut Hill zip codes. | West Newton
West Newton is home to the second exit in Newon off the Mass. Turnpike coming from Boston. It it also a station stop for the commuter train to Boston. Bordering Wellesley and Waban, West Newton is also divided by the Turnpike. The commercial district is mainly on Washington Street with a variety of ethnic foods, Trader Joe's, and the West Newton Movie House. West Newton has the finest selection of Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes in the City. | The new Newton North High School has soaring ceilings, two theaters, two gymnasiums, vocational facilities, and a swimming pool. The building is 412,753 square feet offering 119 instructional spaces which include classrooms, science labs, art, music and special education. The building is designed for 1850 students and has 1950 lockers. Students can study music composition and film scoring in an electronic music lab, botany in a greenhouse, and chemistry and physics in streamlined lab spaces. The vocational -technical facilities include a print and auto body shop. The building has over 850 windows.
